Programs for Students
Discovery Middle School at the Nehemiah Center
From August 2011 through June 2017 Nehemiah Middle School (NMS) offered a personalized, Christian, private school education to young adolescents in grades 6, 7, 8. By June 2017 NMS had graduated forty-two students who now attend some of Houston’s best public and private high schools. In July 2017 the Nehemiah Center entered into an agreement with Southwest Schools, a choice-based Texas education district, in order to expand and enhance the academic offerings for its middle school learners. NMS now operates as Discovery Middle School at the Nehemiah Center (DMSN) and enjoys a variety of new services, personnel, and resources to educate youth.

Fred C. Alcorn Scholarship
It is our wish to help Nehemiah Center children make their college dreams a reality. This year, the Fred C. Alcorn Scholarship Fund is helping to send Nehemiah Center graduates to Columbia University, the University of Rochester, Oklahoma State University, Prairie View A&M University, the University of Houston and Houston Community College.
The scholarship fund was established in the memory of Fred Alcorn, a true friend to the Nehemiah Center. He had a heart for this community and demonstrated his generosity by giving of his time, talents and resources. Each year the scholarship committee, chaired by Sally S. Alcorn, meets to interview and award money to Nehemiah high school seniors who want to pursue higher education.
To make a much-needed donation to the scholarship fund, contact Development Director Angela Synek at ASynek@NehemiahCenterHouston.org.
*The Fred C. Alcorn Scholarship is only available for currently enrolled Nehemiah students.
